This and That About Diamonds and Toads

ey, I know the site looks hideous, but trust me, it's going to look quite snazzy soon.

Also, I will be getting the teen writing contest winning entries up in the next week or two.

Finally, for those of you who remember me announcing that I was severing Diamonds and Toads from teaching -- well, that proved impossible. So please remember, even when you see student comments EVERYONE is welcome to comment year around!

But let me set this up for you.
I am taking: The Trouble with Beauty in Fairytales, American History (slaves), Women & Madness, along with two other classes that do not pertain to this.
The other night, I had a crazy dream. My house was filled with insane and mad women. They were everywhere, my family still lived there, my friends were at my house, and it seemed that it was normal. Besides the fact that all of these mad women were piled in my house, so close together that none of them could move. They were packed like slaves. Exactly like the slaves were shoved into tiny areas on boats bringing them over to the new world. They were in bunk beds just stacked to the ceiling. This still didn’t seem odd to me at all for some reason. But then, guess who decided to stroll in? Ya, the Big Bad Wolf. Only he was insane. His eyes were glowing like cats’ eyes glow in the dark. I had to defend the crazy women. So I did what any normal person would do, I ripped his jaw off. That is how I saved all of the crazy ladies, packed like slaves, from the Big Bad Wolf.
What in the world? Apparently I am thinking just a little too much about my classes! That is just ridiculous!

Off Topic, Advice for Young Girls from the Little Mermaid
The first thing that she says is very hurtful. She says that she gives up the best thing that she has to get something fake. When she is already a beautiful “princess”. At the time that the movie came out, women had barely had their rights for thirty years, and now the Little Mermaid is made into a major animated feature, and one of the main points in the movie is a young girl giving up her voice, which is what women were fighting for, to be heard, for a guy who didn’t even know who she was. Not a very good addition to the feminist movement Walt. Then telling little girls to have smaller friends so you can be controlling, and essentially get whatever you want. That is not right, teaching children that they can have whatever they want just because they can intimidate people is bad manors and not a good life skill. Later in the video she says that you should never talk to a man unless you can get him to kiss you on the lips first. Whoa, that’s an addition to the whole getting to know the person that you want to be with before taking things too far. That is exactly what the movie and some other fairytales portray. Just like in one version of Snow White. The prince kisses her to make her come back to life. These stories are not good for children.
