I just felt like posting some art. This is called "Phosphatine." It's just so pretty. I know nothing about the picture or its artist. Anyone out there have any information?
Hi Kate, It's a beautiful picture and I can never resist the chance to dig around searching for something on the web! I've found this link about the picture, it's an illustration from a book called La Dernière Fée, Conte pour les enfants, here's the link(the text is in French): http://expositions.bnf.fr/contes/grand/181.htm
and there's a wikipedia entry for the artist here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Rochegrosse
Looking at this picture makes me think about an angel descending from heaven. The glow coming off of her, and the way she appears to be floating makes her seem so mystical. I feel I have a good imagination but a picture are always welcome with me and helps me paint a better picture. But sometimes when you read a story first and then see pictures of what others thought it should appear like it doesn’t always go with what I imagined it. That’s especially when it comes to movies and books, people always say books are always better then the movie. When I like to think that the reason for this is we picture everything that goes on in the book As we read it and when it hits the big screen its someone else view of what they thought it would look like. That’s why if I read a book before a movie comes out I don’t even feel as excited about watching it. John J
This is a very beautiful image, and I thank you so much for sharing it with the world. Too rarely to people just take the time to look at an image like this. The use of color gives an uplifting feeling while not being gaudy. The lovely lady floating in the forest is fitting for use on a website, such as this one, that focuses on fairy tales. There is the concern about stepping into a toadstool ring in the forest! The fairy queen may not let you go! Though the fairy in this image is beautiful, and seems good, you can never be too careful when dealing with the fey folk. The man doffing his hat in obeisance is a nice touch as well, regarding the need to be careful and respectful of the strange and mystical, for you never know what you may encounter when you are traveling alone through the woods!
I completely agree with John. I know you are not the biggest fan of the Twilight Saga (Kate), but I saw the first movie before I read the books, so when I read the books I pictured the characters from the movie, so it made the book more visual. I just have to add, I LOVE EDWARD! :)
Also, just so you know, if you ever find an image and you have no idea where it originated, or even if you're trying to find a larger size, try http://www.tineye.com/. It actually lets you upload/link to an image, and then tries to locate where that image is posted on the web. It's still in beta, so it doesn't work for every image (this one, for example,) but it can be a very useful resource, it's helped me out a number of times. (If you're scared of clicking on bloglinks, just Google "Reverse Image Search." It's the top link.)
This picture definitely caught my eye. I think it is gorgeous. Art is a way in which each one of us can escape from reality and live in a fantasy world such as this. I feel a sense of hope by looking at this picture. After studying and anaylizing fairy tales in class and discovering that they do not alway paint these picture perfect scenes such as this one, I find a glimpse back to my childhood in this artwork. The prince charming and his white horse beside him, the heavenly looking beauty who is worshipping, and the beautiful scenery around them which is bright and full of life. It is as if I can almost feel the warmth of the sunlight shining down from the sky and as though I can smell the sweet scent of the forest brush. This picture captures the ideal image most little girls may imagine when they think of fairy tales. It depicts that whole idea of a fantasy world in fairy tales.
Seeing this picture and still being under the influence of the song on the page earlier, first thing that comes to my head is “Lord of the Rings,” especially the part where all of the population of Elron is leaving their land to avoid the conflict. They are part human and part wizards, what would make them almost fairies, just in a bigger shape… We are seeing a wizard, or a fairy, presenting herself to a human, who is showing his respect. He probably needs something and he’s there to ask for help. For some reason, this piece of art is mesmerizing to me. As I said earlier, it places me into world of L.O.T.R. and I enjoy it. I understand that this is not meant to be something like that, but my imagination usually takes over in situations like this and goes wild.
I did a quick search on the name Phosphatine on Google and it appears to be French. I know no French so therefore I know nothing about the photograph or its origins. It reminds me of a lot myths, none specifically, but myths in general. The female in the artwork makes me think she is some sort of nature spirit, based on the way she appears and her dress and styling. Her appearance strikes me as very mystical and spiritual, floating or levitating above the ground. The way she is drawn is also very beautiful and striking as she is surrounded by lights and colors. A lot of myths and tales have heroes searching for something only to come across a beautiful nature spirit and the way the young man appears kneeling before the woman and the fact there is a horse leads me to that point. So yes, I agree something pretty indeed.

The neon feel to this picture is amazing. Just so fitting, fairytale-ish through and through :) <3

This is actually concept art from an upcoming remake of The Blair Witch, (as written by Stephenie Meyer)
Seriously though, this painting is well done. I hate Thomas Kinkade©®TM as a person, but there's no denying he's technically a good artist, and this looks like something he would come up with.
