One of the most talented fairy tale bloggers out there, Gypsy Thornton, has done it again: Brought interesting news about the world of fairy tales, their art, their retellings -- just all things fairy tales!
She writes Once Upon A Blog. She is also a talented fairy tale reteller. I can honestly say that she has one of the most reliably interesting blogs out there on fairy tales. What I've linked to in this post is her post on a new fairy-tale art exhibit, starting in Brooklyn, NY, Oct. 23. Read Gypsy's blog for more info on that intriguing event. Some of the artists being featured, like tarot artist, Lisa Hunt, are truly talented.
The message I want to get out here, especially to my T390 students, but also my fairy-tale friends out in Blogland who may not be aware of Once Upon a Blog, is: What are you waiting for? Check it out! You will learn a lot!

My apologies for the late catch-up and thank you! I'm truly humbled by your recommendation. While I do try to make the blog varied and interesting I feel I can't take credit for the Fairy Tale Art Exhibit post. I was fortunate to have Lisa bring it to my attention and I ran from there. There is so much in the way of 'news' and I only get yo a small percentage of the stories. I highly recommend the SurLaLune Blog (who also blogs daily - often more) and, though she blogs less often, Claire Massey's Fairy Tale Cupboard is awesome too. We're lucky to have so many resources available to us now!
PS Loving the Gutenberg posts! Wonderful, wonderful resource. Sacred Texts also has a huge number of out of print fairy tale texts too, if you get the chance to look there.
I'm using this entry to talk about Alice in Wonderland. First of all, I'll admit I only read it once, and that was when I was around eight or nine. That being said, the reason I never read it again was because it creeped me out so much. And that was without knowing anything about Lewis Carroll's personal life. Now of course, sordid personal lives don't always bleed into artists' work, but Carroll's doesn't just bleed creepy-personal-issues, it hemorrhages.
That being said, Tim Burton is the perfect director to bring those issues to life.
I don't plan on watching.
