Tip of the hat to Miss Elena Eous, whose blog is always lovely and inspiring. She has a very cool "skeleton" rendering of "Cinderella, plus, a quote from Robert D. San Souci, who apparently wrote a retelling of the story with a bony spin.
Anyway, check out Miss Elena Eous. Her blog is thoroughly enjoyable

Cheers from The Daily Blog
Your blogs are very interesting. I read your entire page. The poetry really adds to the content of the page. The pictures fit in very well with the poems too. Some of them are kind of funny. Congratulations on being a blog of note. Keep up the good work with the poems, pictures, and blogs. I need to restructure my blog page a little more like yours because I do not have a lot of blogs quite yet, but I will soon.
Certainly very Tim Burton-esque. Is it just me, or does that remind anyone else of Jack Skellington? Maybe it's the shape of the eyes.
Tangentially, I think every good story can be made greater my monsters and ghouls. I was at the bookstore the other day, and I noticed a book called "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies". There were others in the series, too, all with a different creature added to the story with supplemental text to go along with it. As someone who never liked "Pride and Prejudice" - vehemently disliked is a better way of putting it - I almost bought it, just to spite Jane Austen.
This brings up perhaps my favorite aspect of fairy tales -- they're not subject to copyright laws. Authors are free to add, subtract, and change whatever elements of the classics they wish; what is old is made new again. Indeed, my favorite fairy tale is Angela Carter's "The Tiger's Bride", an artful, alternate version of the classic "Beauty and the Beast".
I can only imagine how stale the 'classics' would appear if they weren't able to be injected with fresh life by artists such as Carter and San Souci.

I agree with everyone else. The picture is very Tim Burton like and very Corpse Bride like by the same token. I will have to say though that although I love Tim Burton films his work is dark. He usually works with and uses muted colors. This picture however is very bright and cheerful. One of the things I first noticed about this illustration was that the girl was a red head. Today almost every character is either blonde or brunette. To make this girl a red head is important. Not only because I think read headed, women especially, are cuter than the typical blonde and brunette but also because of the way red heads are supposed to act. The primary colors in her hair and in the prince’s coat are a contrast to the background which is washed out. Beautiful picture overall.
The picture of ‘Cinderella Skeleton’ reminds me a lot of Tim Burton’s ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ except that it is much brighter and cheerier than what Tim Burton would create. He makes everything so dark and gloomy. But the prince in the photo does look a lot like Jack, but the princess is a skeleton also, so she is definitely not Sally. I know that you don’t care for Tim Burton, but he is clearly very influential on others. As I pointed out, the picture of ‘Cinderella Skeleton’ is very Burton-esque and the quote from the book "Cinderella Skeleton! The rarest gem the world has seen! You make each day a Halloween!" making every day Halloween is basically the whole concept of ‘Nightmare Before Christmas.’ Robert D. San Souci story is not the only thing inspired by Burton. Blink-182 wrote the song ‘Miss You’ ten years after ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ came out and they say right in the song “…we can live like Jack and Sally if you want, and we’ll have Halloween on Christmas…” and they created the music video to be really dark and gloomy just as though it was a Tim Burton film. With Halloween being right around the corner, it’s also easy to see how powerful Burton’s ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ is. Any store that sells decorations or costumes has Jack and Sally costumes and decorations.
